In order to ensure academic success, fairness, and consistency, this policy alerts students to the fact that they are required to take all final exams with their class as scheduled with exceptions allowed for the two circumstances noted in the policy.

AUP is committed to ensuring student success. When extenuating circumstances prevent completion of a course, a student may be granted a temporary “Incomplete” grade and extended deadline to complete coursework. However, to ensure that students complete their degrees in a reasonable amount of time, this policy specifies the maximum number of incompletes that a graduate student is permitted to have at the end of each semester.

By specifying the maximum time permitted for graduate students to complete their degrees, this policy ensures that all students are consistently and fairly given a realistic amount of time to graduate while upholding reasonable standards of academic rigor.

These policies and procedures guide students’ presentation of their final theses. Regulation of the presentation of the final thesis at the graduate level helps to ensure that students respect French and International Intellectual Property laws as well as academic best practices of scholarly work. This policy also helps to create a collection of theses for the University Library.

Library collection development is a community process involving faculty, students, staff and library personnel. These guidelines help determine what print (books, periodicals), online resources, and multimedia material to acquire and which gifts to accept.

In order to satisfy academic and scholarly information needs, the AUP Library offers interlibrary loan services to its constituents (i.e. upon request, the AUP Library will obtain material not already available in its collection) and to other institutions. This policy ensures that materials are fairly and consistently shared with library users worldwide.

The American University of Paris Library circulation policies regulate the lending of circulating and non-circulating library materials to all AUP constituencies. This policy details the loan periods, renewals, self-renewals, recalls, return of items, lost items, fines and fees, as well as the borrowing terms of circulation items, items on reserve, films, non-circulating items, etc.

AUP alumni residing in the Paris area may borrow materials from the AUP Library, per the rules outlined in this policy.

The continuous evaluation of student learning is an integral part of the educational process at The American University of Paris as it is in all American universities. Students must demonstrate their knowledge and comprehension through a wide range of academic exercises and assessments, which may include written assignments, research, in-class essays, examinations or oral presentations. Faculty members perform assessments with professionalism, fairness, consistency, and objectivity.

Students who withdraw from courses are entitled to tuition refunds, depending on the time of withdrawal and the student’s enrollment status, per this policy.
