This policy articulates AUP’s guiding principle as an educational institution of defending free speech and condemning hate speech. As a private American institution located in France, AUP encourages, protects, and sustains the freedom of expression, offering the broadest possible latitude to both internal and external speakers within the limits of French and European law. Hate speech is antithetical to AUP’s core values and its prohibition extends to every corner of AUP’s campus, including online speech.
AUP welcomes transfer students, and in order to facilitate their transition, processes transfer of credit according to this policy.
Since English is the language of instruction at AUP, all candidates for admission must demonstrate English proficiency at a level that will ensure their ability to successfully complete university-level work. Scores from standard tests of English are required for candidates whose native language is not English.

Students are expected to maintain a GPA that shows they are succeeding in their courses and making good progress towards graduation. At the end of every spring semester, all students’ GPAs are reviewed, and students not meeting cut-off levels are put on probation or dismissed.
